Electric Vehicles

Goldfinch Energy loves helping homeowners make the switch to a vehicle that costs much less to operate.

Make the Switch

It won’t surprise you that we like talking EVs and can share our experiences and rebate advice with you. EVs are more convenient because you mostly fuel up at home (we promise you won’t miss the gas station!) Faster charging stations are popping up in parking lots everywhere making travelling in an EV a relaxing experience. Once people have made a couple of trips, they never look back.

Getting Ready

Getting your home ready to charge an EV is easy. EVs can even be charged in a regular outlet, it depends on your driving pattern. Many people install the fastest charger available when they buy an electric car, but many people who start with a slower charger never upgrade. Goldfinch Energy can help ensure you have the right set up whether you’re adding EVs now or in the future.

Shopping Around

There are a lot of good electric vehicles available, many with excellent range. Plug n Drive is a non-profit that lets you test drive many of the electric vehicles available in Canada.

Money Back

There is currently a federal government rebate of $5,000 for electric cars. The rebate is applied at the point of sale for consumers who buy or lease an eligible zero emission vehicle. Learn more here.

SUV alternative anyone?

Unfortunately SUVs and vans aren’t climate friendly because they are big square boxes moving through a lot of wind resistance. Gas SUVs produce 45% more carbon emissions than a regular car or station wagon. If you must have an SUV, Tesla makes a high-end luxury one.

Consider instead adopting a more European approach. Europeans love smaller, sportier cars which are more fun to drive and far easier to park. A normal-sized electric car with a Thule box on top can carry SUV-sized cargo. Help us buck the SUV trend by choosing a cleaner way to get around.
